What are your biggest issues?
Getting the best results in Iraq? Fighting terrorism in general? National defense issues in general?
Controlling our borders? Reducing the number of illegal aliens in the U.S.? Getting illegal aliens off of the public dole?
Reducing judicial activism? Having the Supreme Court follow the Constitution?
Lowering taxes? Reforming taxes? Controlling government spending? Economic issues in general?
Protecting the unborn?
Preserving marriage?
Protecting gun ownership rights?
How would having a Democrat in the White House bring things closer to your ideal on any of those issues? It wouldn’t. No matter which of the current Republican candidates gets the nomination, the reality is, if you are a conservative or a libertarian, the Democrat nominee’s positions will be further away from your ideal. And, if you sit out the 2008 election or support a third party candidate, you will be helping that Democrat to win. The Republican may not be perfect, but you will be more likely to have his ear if you vote for him. You are more likely to have his ear if you are a Republican. The Democrat will be influenced by the various Leftist and statist groups.
Plus, we need to get out to support Republicans for Congress and for state offices. Even a moderate or liberal Republican President is going to have a conservative Presidency if Congress is conservative. Congress is more likely to be conservative if controlled by Republicans, even if some of those Republicans are RINOs.
Finally, the GOP is more likely to cater to those who are active supporters. If you are a libertarian or a conservative, and you sit on your hands, the GOP is more likely to cater to those with whom you disagree. So act now, and act later to make 2008 a good year for conservatives and libertarians.
