Racism on the Campaign Trail

When I hear campaign aides talking about their candidate’s “appeal to Latinos” or “appeal to African-Americans”, or even worse, when I hear a candidate specifically address people as these groups, I have to wonder why it is okay to be so racist?  Why do they assume people think a certain way because of their skin color?

With this in mind, I would very much like it if someone would ask a candidate on-camera (and insist on a direct response):

Is it okay for the government or for Presidential candidates to treat people differently based on their ethnicity or gender?

If the candidate says “no”, and yet has addressed “the Latino community” or “the African-American community” with their speeches and campaign materials, I want the questioner to point this out.

Aren’t all voters supposed to be Americans?  Why not address the concerns of Americans, and stop dividing us?
