The
Los Angeles Times scolds California voters for rejecting Proposition 93. The proposition claimed to be “term limits”, but would have actually extended the current legislators’ possible terms. The “yes” side touted that the proposition would allow legislators to serve all of the time in one house – the State Assembly or the State Senate – instead of terming them out and prompting them to run for the other house, local office, or Congress. This, they argued, would allow them some level of experience and reduce the influence of lobbyists.
California voters didn’t by it, though, and rightly so. They were not willing to give the current corrupt and illegal alien-encouraging incumbents more time, in exchange for later getting a slight reform.
I lean against term limits, because I think our politicians should serve in office as long as people are willing to vote for them. But if we're going to have them, let's not stand for someone manipulating the system to give themselves extensions.
Real reform would come with some changes to redistricting, but the socialists in Sacramento will do anything they can to retain power within their circles, so that’s not going to happen.
