The GOP is big enough for Powell and Limbaugh. Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer who also informs his audience. He is not a GOP official. He is not an elected or appointed representative. He's a businessman and entertainer and salesman. Powell is a soldier and statesman.
We can't really know why Powell voted for Obama. Clearly, that's not a GOP thing to do. Maybe he has personal problems with McCain. Many Republicans do. It is one thing to agree with the campaign platform of someone, and quite another to believe that they will be a better President than someone else.
Powell, or anyone else who believes that:
1. Vigilant national defense has to be one our highest priorities
2. There are few things the government does better than the private sector
3. People should generally be free to enjoy the fruits of their own labor
4. The Constitution and our system of limited government, separation of powers, checks and balances, and state rights must be preserved
5. We have a nation of laws, not entitled elites - we, the people have a government, not the other way around
...should feel welcome in the GOP.
