Thoughts on Ditching Don't Ask, Don't Tell

Who knew the LGBTQQUAI folks were so conservative and patriotic?  They really, really want to get “married”, and they really, really want to serve in the military.

I’m not a military expert, so I don’t know whether or not allowing homosexual people to serve openly in our armed forces will make our armed forces more or less effective. What I have read is that there is a higher rate of mental illness, substance abuse, and STIs among homosexual people as compared to heterosexual people. With individual screening, however, that can be mitigated, so I don’t see it as a compelling reason exclude all people who identify as homosexual. I would be supportive of a policy that specific unhealthy behaviors (such as promiscuity) should be prohibited for military personnel we’re counting on to be healthy to defend us, especially since I fully support funding health care for our military personnel and veterans.

I also suspect that the homosexuality advocacy groups are not pushing for doing away with DADT out of a sense of patriotism (though individual homosexual people may be very patriotic) – I mean come on, those advocacy groups tend to be quite Leftist, and as such, run in circles that detest the American armed forces. Rather, I suspect this push for open inclusion of homosexual people in the military is yet another way to try to get people to think homosexual sodomy is qualitatively and morally equivalent to heterosexual coitus, and more importantly, to be able to say stupid things like, “He was good enough to serve our country in war, but can’t marry the man he loves!”

To me, the ultimate question is: What is best for national defense?

I’ll close by writing... God bless all of our military personnel and veterans who have served honorably. Thank you for doing so.
