Republican California State Senator Roy Ashburn, who is divorced and has four kids, was arrested for drunk driving after spending time in a gay bar. This has more or less forced him to come out of the closet as now identifying as a homosexual (the kind that has sex with women and makes four babies).
He isn't facing reelection, as he is termed out. In fact, he was part of an orchestrated maneuver between the majority Democrats and the Republicans to allow the Democrats to pass a huge tax increase with a just enough Republican votes to reach the needed supermajority. The Republican votes, save one, were from people who were going to be termed out anyway. Ashburn and others had broken their signed "no new taxes" pledge, but the only recourse the voters had was an expensive recall, and with the terms only lasting so much longer, it just wasn't worth it.
