Petroleum Means Possibilities and Progress

I haven't heard of a good enough reason to leave "fossil fuels" in the ground - have you?  If so, please share it with me.  Fossil fuels like oil and gas are a gift from God - natural resources that can be used for so many productive uses.  "Alternative" and "green" energies are fine, as long as they generate enough power to be efficient.  But at long as there is natural gas and oil in the earth and we can efficiently retrieve it and put it to use, we should.

I bring this all up right now because of this article in the Los Angeles Times by Ronald D. White.
Occidental Petroleum Corp. said it had discovered oil and natural gas in a Kern County field that might represent the biggest find in California in more than 35 years.

The nation's fourth-biggest oil company said Wednesday that it had found the equivalent of 150 million to 250 million barrels of oil, adding that two-thirds of the new source was believed to be natural gas.
Kudos to the people involved in this find.
The discovery was described as major by analysts and probably resulted from improved exploration technology. The find could cause other oil companies to redouble their efforts to drill for oil and natural gas in the U.S., they said.
As a kid, I was told by my textbooks and by television that oil was going to run out, and soon.  Well, it has been a long time since I was a kid, and we know about more oil than ever, thanks to technology.

The best part is that this find is domestic.  No friendly-with-tyrants-and-terrorists yahoos to deal with.

Oil Prices Plummeting

How can this be, when we all know Bush-Cheney-Big Oil have been conspiring to raise prices and enrich evil greedy oil execs by making us all pay more for gas?  I suppose this means Bush can't even do that right?  Would one of your conspiracy nuts explain what is going on here?

A Sensible Energy Plan

1. Build more refineries NOW.
2. Pump more oil NOW.
3. Drill for more oil NOW.
4. Explore for more oil NOW.

Let’s use fossil fuels, such as oil, coal, and natural gas, which are of no use to anyone or anything as long as they are sitting in the ground.

And while we’re at it…

5. Build more nuclear power plants NOW.

6. Use food for food.
